Stuart named on the 2025 GB & Ireland Walker Cup team.

If a week is a long time in politics the last 24 hours have been phenomenal for our colleague Stuart Grehan.

First, he became only the third Irish golfer to complete the Irish Amateur Open and Close double with a two-shot victory in the Irish Close in Westport GC. With his lead reduced to one playing the 13th Stuart, demonstrating total control of his game, played the last 6 in one under to win by two shots and join Padraig Harrington as a double Open and Close winner. Coincidentally, a young Rory McIlroy was the winner of the last Irish Close to be played in Westport GC.

To cap a memorable weekend Stuart has today been named on the 2025 GB & Ireland Walker Cup team. The Walker Cup takes place on September 6 & 7 and is being played on one of the world’s most iconic golf courses, the Alistar McKenzie designed Cypress Point. The Walker Cup was last played in Cypress Point in 1981 and the two Irish team members were Ronan Rafferty and Philip Walton and coincidentally Ireland again has two team members this year as Stuart is joined by his club colleague Gavin Tiernan. What a wonderful honour for Co Louth Golf Club but an honour richly deserved for both Stuart and Gavin.
